ROCI BERLIN (1990)
Part of the Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange project, ROCI BERLIN is a series of acrylic paintings with collage and silkscreened images of photographs that Rauschenberg took primarily in Berlin during a research trip there in 1989. Rauschenberg's initial concept was for exhibitions to be held simultaneously in East and West Berlin; this plan was suspended, however, due to resistance on the part of the government in East Berlin. After the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the project was reinstated and the ROCI BERLIN exhibition was held at the Neue Berliner Galerie im Alten Museum in Berlin in 1990.
