Art & Environment
The Art + Environment program was created to support effective methods for addressing climate change that leveraged creativity and broad-based civic engagement. The program provided funding in three areas: 

  • Individual artists, who were supported through programs such as Marfa Dialogues/NY and Marfa Dialogues/St. Louis, as well as grants to produce Lars Jan’s Holoscenes and Maya Lin’s What is Missing? memorial to biodiversity.
  • Sundance Institute, a partnership was developed to support films and emerging media projects that tackle climate change and the need for action.
  • The Climate Change Solutions Fund, which was initiated for organizations with a proven track record working to address the root cause of climate change, funded:

Regional Grants
Building on the deep ties Robert Rauschenberg had to New York and to Captiva, FL, the foundation established a Regional Grants program, which provided support to area organizations both in and outside of the art sector. To administer these grants, the foundation formed partnerships with two community foundations: New York Community Trust and Southwest Florida Community Foundation. While our regional grants program is closed, these partnerships continue through our Emergency grants.
